CLEVELAND, Ohio – The end of the boys high school basketball season marked the beginning of a whole new experience for Holy Name’s Dwayne Cohill and Garfield Heights’ Marreon Jackson.

This isn’t even the AAU circuit that gets under way in April.

Cohill and Jackson, both point guards, got their first taste of international competition with a 10-day trip to Italy. Both were invited to play on separate teams, organized by area coaching stalwart Randy Montgomery.

Montgomery has more than 500 high school wins, mostly at Wooster Triway and North Canton Hoover. The Youngstown State graduate is currently at West Branch. For this event, he took two teams filled with Ohio players into European play.

Cohill’s Team Ohio squad won its age group, unbeaten in seven games with the Holy Name sophomore earning tournament MVP honors. He also placed second in a dunk contest, as the event – known as the “Giovani Leggende Varese” – concluded in Varese’s 5,000-seat professional arena.
